MEXICANS DO KNOW HOW TO CELEBRATE
It was my first time in Mexico City. After hearing stories about how dangerous it is I was really worried to go there on my own; also I...
Mexico beach destinations like Cancun or Puerto Vallarta attract millions of travelers, however for some reason Mexico City is only gaining it’s popularity now. I’m not a fan of their beach cities - it’s basically the tourism factories made for milking tourist’s money; zero authenticity and not the friendliest people around you. Mexico City is an absolutely different world!
The city is absolutely stunning: amazing architecture, breathtaking historical old town, extremely genuine and friendly people, delicious food, world class restaurants and bars. I absolutely fell in love with this city!
Everybody stresses that’s it’s dangerous, but I haven’t had any issues whatsoever. My only advice would be just to be smart and cautious like any other major city. The only two negative things are: the air pollution and the traffic; hopefully they work on those soon.
Going out in the city is absolutely amazing, just don’t drink too much on the first night - the city’s elevation is 2250 meters (7200 feet) therefore you could feel the effects of the alcohol more. I didn't feel the altitude sickness, but I definitely got drunk much faster (I could blame tequila and mescal for that too). Get to the ZONA ROSA neighborhood for the gay bars, however search around - there are parties at various locations. My favorite was the most upscale one called SAINT.
Getting your Mexican cuisine fix at La Casa de Toño also in Zona Rosa is a must; whether it is after the party or the next morning to cure your hangover.
