BICYCLES, WEED AND GAYS
Three worlds that describe this city best: bicycles, weed and gays. The presence of thousands of bicycles (make sure you rent one when you're there) helps make life much easier. Weed… well every tourist does that, not every local though. Gays - you're in the right place!
After going there I often feel like it's too gay. It’s not that there is a certain part of the city that’s gay - the entire city is actually that way (which can be quite different than other major cities). After a couple of days I did get used to that and it did feel how it's supposed to be in this world. That's the first place I ever kissed a guy in a central downtown area in the middle of the day and didn’t notice anybody staring at us. That's how it should be everywhere!
As for a night out, there is the Reguliers street as the main pink area, but you can go to any bar and you'll meet gay guys - they are everywhere! Locals don't care much about that street, you'll meet mostly fellow tourists. Reguliers is just good for a couple of bars where young guys go (keep in mind most people who drink in the street are older) also there is club NYX. However this street is holds day and night street parties during pride, which is a must! Dancing and drinking in the middle of the day in the street packed with hot, equally wasted guys was a complete blast!
Keep in mind Amsterdam night life is more about parties than clubs, which is very different from other cities. In the same location one day can be a circuit party, the next day concert for classical music.
