Most of the gays left homophobic Eastern Europe looking for a better life. You can meet especially many Bulgarians in every Western Europe capital. They are usually super friendly and nice.
With many cheap flights to Sofia it’s becoming a tourist attraction and an interesting place to see how gays that did not escape it live. It’s pretty modern: really nice bars and restaurants, but what about gay establishments? They are not amazing, but not terrible as well. Read about them here.
On the streets of the city you can clearly say who’s gay who’s not, even with the worst functioning gaydar. There’s a huge trend of being orange - seems like gays live in the cancer causing solariums. After they are done with the fake sun, the next step is a gym - not sure what extra additives they add to the body, but these boys are big! Add extra bleached blond hair and you will get the typical Bulgarian gay.
Sofia is definitely not a place to go for a husband hunting, but for party weekend break we say - yes!
