FIESTA PLOP OR IN ENGLISH - THE FLOP PARTY
Buenos Aires does have some low-class gay parties. PLOP is on the edge. The main good thing about it is the venue - a classy theater. I’m not sure why, but I love parties in the theaters. Maybe I simply want to feel more classy than I really am…
Otherwise, it is… a sh1thole. It’s dirty cheap - the cover $3 (after 2:30 am - $5). They pour drinks by the liter - last time I had only 2 drinks and got wasted. And they are dirty cheap $6-9 (yes, that’s for a liter!). It’s cheap, but it’s also pretty stupid to serve such big drinks - dancing with that huge cup is kinda complicated. Lot’s of spiling is happening. Previously it was even worse - they had open bar - the floor was literally flooded by free alcohol.
In the balcony they have a bar for better quality drinks. It took me 15 minutes to get what I wanted as the menu was absolutely not clear and they don’t speak English. Thanks to that cute waiter who liked me and poured whatever I wanted for a random banknote I gave him.
Enough about alcohol. Get ready for the crazy noise level (it takes some efforts to distinguish music from the noise there). You must bring the ear plugs, but keep in mind none of the locals have them and they think you’re weird for wearing earplugs. Still, if you don’t want to become death in one night it’s a must.
As the party is held in the theater they have a big stage for the performances. I’ll give them a badge for the cheesiest production show ever. The show is usually high school quality level and always themed. The last one I saw was ‘The Beatles - Yellow Submarine’. I know, a ridiculous theme for teenagers who don’t even know what is The Beatles. They had some super low-cost set design, absolutely terrible performance, that as usual included a small person and a fat dancer that everybody laughed at. After the performance all the dancers dressed as The Beatles were dancing to Shakira and Britney.
If you spend enough time in this city you will end up in this drunk and pushy teenager party. Make sure you come early - around 3 am the line gets insanely long… Argentinians love the lines - waiting for an hour creates zero stress for them. Tranquilo.
